Platypus

One fine day in the month of May

There hatched a little egg.

It cracked a bit, then all the way

And we saw its tiny leg.

Out it popped and looked around

With its tiny twinkly eyes.

But still nowhere was his Mama found;

He was the son of holy skies.

It waddled its way to the bed

Of a rivulet in South Wales.

 And one by one there he met

New females and new males.

First up was a big white duck

Who said with his yellow beak,

“Hey little fellow, it’s tough luck

I’m not who you seek.”

Second came a large flat tailed

Female singer Beaver,

Hearing her screechy voice

The newborn thought to leave her.

Third in line well this time

Was an otter with webbed claws

He looked up and told our guy

He didn’t know who his Mama was.

Broken hearted he walked away

To see the wise old camel.

And there he heard the warm guy say

That his Mama was a mammal.

The sad young spawn stayed up till dawn

And wished he would fit in.

And that is when he was heard by a star

Which waved its magic ring.

And that’s how he got his bill

And tail and claws and fur.

And as it happened his wish was still

Just a mighty blur.

For the other animals would not be

With the creepy looking creature

And the lonely soul sang, did he…

(break the beat now)

“I'm a creep

I'm a weirdo

What the hell am I doing here?

I don't belong here”

But even as time passed by

He just wouldn’t fit in.

So to stand out did he decide

And since then great he’s been.

So that’s the tale of how he came

To be here amongst us.
